Smith Canyon Ranch LLC purchased its first set of Registered Corrientes in 1989 from Lamar Ranches (a North American Corriente Assn. founding member). Since that time, the herd has grown to between 150-175 head of NACA Registered Corriente mother cows. We have taken great pride over the years in the injecting of genetic diversity to our herd, utilizing sires from many well known NACA breeders, such as Cates, Garcia, Barham, Diamond A, Cain, Coffelt and Arrow Heart Corrientes. This steady influx of new genetics has built a herd with a proven track record both in the arena & the show pens. Since the formation of the Plains Area Corriente Association in 1991 (a regional offshoot of the NACA), Smith Canyon Ranch cattle have garnered 2 Grand Champion Bull, 1 Grand Champion Female and 3 Grand Champion Roping Animal titles. In addition, there have been 15 First Place animals, in individual categories. Eight of which were in the Roping Performance categories. These cattle have been bred to perform and every animal in the herd was roped for a summer as yearlings. Bad attitudes are not tolerated or kept. All of these cattle are easy to be around & have absolutely no trouble at calving time. Born and raised at 5000’ for elevation, along the foot of the Bighorn Mountains, they are a solid set of cows. After being an NACA Registered Breeder for 32 years and serving on the NACA Natl. Board of of Directors for 5, Smith Canyon has decided to scale back the herd size somewhat to allow a slight ‘shift in gears’ operationally.; This unreserved online auction features bidding extensions.
