Seller Story
In 2007 Sherwyn Unruh took over operational control of Unruh Hay Company, a business that his father, Ron Unruh started in 1986. Sherwyn has been active in the business from his childhood. Located in Haskell County, near Copeland, Kansas, Unruh Hay Company is within 60 mile radius of nearly one million head of cattle amassed in feed-yards and diaries. Local ethanol plants introduced wet distillers grain to the area, combined with regular crop rotations, provided an opportunity to swath and bale crop residue from nearby irrigated fields to be utilized with the WDG for cattle feed, in addition to an already established customer base for other dry forages. Custom haying and providing resources through hay brokering have been the cornerstone of the business. For the past three years Sherwyn and his wife Kari Ann have discussed slowing down by phasing out of the fast-paced custom hay business to have more time to focus on the family. In addition Ron Unruh recently made to decision to retire, providing plenty of work to be done with the irrigated and dryland farming that they will continue to do, along with a complementing cow herd.
Unruh Hay Company chose to be a BigIron Auctions repeat Seller because of the local presence in their area, and the marketing exposure that reaches so many people.
